För sin utställning för Rum 203 kommer den erkända Turkiska konstnären och konstprofessorn Çağrı Saray att visa verk ur två av hans pågående projekt ”Spaces of Memory” och ”Threshold of Forgetting”. Både projekten berör historiska och sociala minnen i Turkiet. 

Genom sina teckningar undersöker Saray platser i Turkiet som innehar kollektiva, historiska och social minnen men hans teckningar kan också ses som ett försök om att utstaka någon form av långsiktighet och permanens i ett omvälvande politisk tillstånd. Platser och byggnader som Dolmabahçe Palace, Istanbul University, Istanbul Måleri och Skulptur Museum, AKM, Haydarpaşa Terminal och Sansaryan har alla blivit föremål för Sarays penna. 

Sarays teckningar gör anspråk på att konservera det kollektiva minnet men samtidigt genom teckningarnas diskontinuerliga linjespel understryker han också minnets ständiga förlust. Att behålla minnet, att inordna saker i arkiv och komma ihåg årsdagar kräver ansträngning och upprepning. Minnet skapar ritualer som förflyttar det förflutna till ett ”nu".

For his show for Room 203, the acclaimed Turkish artist and professor Çağrı Saray will showcase two of his ongoing projects "Spaces of Memory" and "Threshold of Forgetting". Both projects concern historical and social memory in Turkey.

Through his drawings, Saray investigates places in Turkey that hold collective, historical and social memories, but his drawing can also be seen as an attempt to capture some form of long-term permanence in an overwhelmingly politicized country. Places and buildings such as the Dolmabahçe Palace, Istanbul University, Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum, AKM, Haydarpaşa Terminal and Sansaryan have all been the subject of Saray's work.

Saray's drawings attempt to conserve collective memory, but at the same time, through the discontinuous line play of his drawings, he also emphasizes the constant loss of memory. Keeping memory, organizing things in archives and remembering anniversaries requires effort and repetition. Memory creates rituals that move the past toward the here and now.
